Five of us had a stunningly good dinner at Levant last week. Apart from its delicious and original food it has a wonderful ambience, the logburning fire roaring and 30 candles lit. As before, a lovely welcome from Tanya and the tireless and knowledgeable Jason. The mezze to start are visually stunning, the taramasalata (a recipe from Tanya’s Godmother Claudia Rodin) evocative of my childhood… I had local lamb leg marinated in pomegranate molasses and harissa, slightly pink, which was delicious. The chard had been picked from Levant’s own vegetable garden that afternoon. My friends had, respectively, chicken, artichoke, olive tagine and lamb and beef Kofte in tomato and yoghurt . All of it very good indeed. We finished with local cheeses and a triumph of knickerbocker glory, baklava and a totally original ice cream of rhubarb and salted caramel. We will be back soon!
